1. Overview

The Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa is Thailand’s ten-year route for foreign nationals the government actively wants to attract — investors, retirees with solid pension income, remote professionals employed abroad, and specialists in priority industries. Created to support economic growth and innovation, it bundles a long validity period with simplified immigration handling, easier work authorisation and the ability to bring immediate family, making it one of the more stable options for building a long-term base in Thailand.

3. Key Benefits of the LTR Visa

The programme bundles a set of advantages that standard long-stay visas do not offer:

Qualifying thresholds and required documents differ across the four LTR categories, and the issuing authority reviews them periodically. Contact OneStop Hua Hin for the current figures and a personalised assessment of which category fits your situation.

4. Frequently Asked Questions

01

Does the LTR visa mean I can work in Thailand without a work permit?

Not quite. The LTR route gives access to a simplified digital work permit rather than removing the work-permit requirement altogether. Applicants in the working categories can obtain that permit through a streamlined process, but lawful employment still depends on holding it — the visa on its own is not work authorisation.

02

Can my family come to Thailand with me?

Yes. The main applicant can include a spouse and up to four children, which is one of the programme’s clearer advantages over standard long-stay routes. Each dependant still has their own paperwork, and we prepare those applications alongside the main one.

03

Do all LTR holders get the reduced 17% income tax rate?

No. The reduced 17% personal income tax rate applies to eligible specialists — broadly, the highly skilled professional category — not to every LTR holder. Whether you qualify, and how the rate interacts with your other income and any tax treaty, is worth confirming with an accountant before you rely on it.
